Triage:

The act of sorting injured people by the most severely injured. Victims are sorted into 4 categories with the goal of getting the most critically injured people into advanced medical/surgical care first. The other groups of injuries will receive transport and less emergent care in successive order. Triage Incidents follow different rules than most typical first aid and “911” style emergencies where most everyone gets immediate advanced care transport as soon as the ambulance arrives. Using this system has saved the lives of many people who might have otherwise been overlooked.

Triage kits are becoming more essential than ever before. They are not just for fire trucks and supervising paramedic rigs. The sooner triage (the act of sorting injured people by the most severely injured) can be started the more time is saved by the arriving emergency personnel.
